The Commissioner of Development & Infrastructure Services provided an introduction to the presentation and an overview of the process that has occurred thus far. He reviewed the public consultation opportunities and the concepts that would be presented during the Special Committee of the Whole.
Lisa Rapoport, PLANT Architect Inc., began her presentation with a video which further explained the three design concepts that were being presented to the Committee of the Whole. She reviewed the guiding principles of a Destination, Rooted in History & Forward Looking, Connected, Natural, and Inclusive & Accessible. The presentation continued by providing additional details regarding the concerns identified throughout neighbourhood consultation, specifically the Jim Bond Park integration, privacy & noise, traffic & parking, safety & security, and tree preservation. She also reviewed the consultation held with York Region and their recommendations regarding transportation options, tree canopy, and parking options.
The presentation provided an overview of the three identified concepts of Energized, Expressive, and Peaceful, and advised that preferred elements from all 3 concepts would be consolidated into one master plan. The presentation outlined the overarching, planting/landscaping, recreation, art, and water feature strategies for each concept and highlighted key elements of each.
Members of Council queried the presenter on the reforestation of the area, the project timeline & next steps, four season elements of design, and parking & transportation options.
