The regular meeting of the Newmarket Downtown Development Subcommittee was held on Friday, April 25, 2014 at 10:00 a.m. in Hall 4 of the Community Centre & Lions Hall, 200 Doug Duncan Drive, Newmarket.

The Economic Development Officer provided a verbal update regarding the details associated with Financial Incentives Program Application 2013-16 for the property known as 262 Main Street South.

1.         THAT the Interior Renovation and Improvement Program No-Interest Loan Application 2013-16 in the amount of $100,000.00 for the property known as 262 Main Street South be approved, subject to submission of a separate eligible items list.

4.         AND THAT the Planning and Building Fees Rebate/Credit Program Grant Application in the amount of $1,886.69 be approved;

financial incentives program application 2014-09 – Project feasibility Study program, interior Renovation and improvement program, and planning and building fees rebate/credit program, 179 Main Street South

The Economic Development Officer provided a verbal status update regarding the multiple applications associated with the property known as 179 Main Street South. He advised that the owners intend to make substantial interior improvements to the building to address deficiencies. A request to offset professional fees associated with engineered drawings needed for building permit as well as building permit fees has also been made at this time.

3.         AND THAT the Planning and Building Fees Rebate/Credit Program Grant Application in an amount up to $1,000.00 be approved, subject to confirmation of final payment;

The Economic Development Officer provided a verbal status update with respect to the property known as 201 Main Street South.  He advised of a proposed English style fish and chips restaurant in space formerly occupied by the Running Free establishment.

5.         newmarket downtown development subcommittee minutes  April 25, 2014 – Item 5

financial incentives program application 2013-13 – façade Improvement and resoration program and business sign program, 241 main street south

The Economic Development Officer provided a verbal update regarding the property known as 241 Main Street South. He advised that the applicant had previously been approved for façade improvements.  At that time, the owner was encouraged to explore alternative exterior treatments that complement the historic nature of the street.  Quotes have been submitted for brick work replacement on the upper level of the building which is more expensive than the original works proposed and the applicant is seeking the Committee’s additional funding support, as well as financial assistance for a new awning sign.

2.         AND THAT the Business Sign Program Grant Application 2013-13 in the amount of $2,500.00 be approved;

 

3.         AND THAT RC Design, c/o Mr. Rob Clark, 241 Main Street South, Newmarket, ON L3Y 3Z4 be notified of this action.

community grant program applications – Newmarket Jazz+ Festival/caribbean and southeast asian showcase festival

The Economic Development Officer provided a verbal update regarding the Community Grant Program Application for the Newmarket Jazz+ Festival scheduled for the Civic Holiday weekend in August, 2014.  He also advised of a pending application from the Ranji Singh Foundation related to the Caribbean and Southeast Asian Showcase Festival.

3.         AND THAT the Community Grant Program Application from the Ranji Singh Foundation for the Caribbean and Southeast Asian Showcase Festival in the amount of $1,000.00 be approved;

 

4.         AND THAT the Ranji Singh Foundation, 817 Norwick Road, Newmarket, ON L3X 1K8 be notified of this action.
