The regular meeting of the Newmarket Downtown Development Subcommittee was held on Friday, February 28, 2014 at 10:00 a.m. in Hall 4 of the Community Centre & Lions Hall, 200 Doug Duncan Drive, Newmarket.

1.         NEWMARKET DOWNTOWN DEVELOPMENT SUBCOMMITTEE MINUTES  FEBRUARY 28, 2014 – ITEM 1 – FINANCIAL INCENTIVES PROGRAM APPLICATION 2013-16 – 262 MAIN STREET SOUTH

 

The Economic Development Officer introduced Mr. Joseph Zhang and Ms. Janice Jiang, proprietors of The Fresh Tea Co. 

 

Mr. Joseph Zhang and Ms. Janice Jiang addressed the Committee with a PowerPoint presentation highlighting proposed changes to the building known as 262 Main Street South in order to operate a business known as The Fresh Tea Co.   Mr. Neil Cooper, Construction Manager, addressed the Committee with details related to the proposed restoration of the exterior of the building.  Ms. Jiang offered those present samples of tea intended for sale once the business is in full operation.

 

Discussion ensued regarding the exterior colour palette and proposed timelines of restoration construction.  Mr. Hart offered to assist Mr. Zhang and Mr. Cooper in providing exterior colour palette samples of the building in its’ original state.

3.         NEWMARKET DOWNTOWN DEVELOPMENT SUBCOMMITTEE MINUTES

FEBRUARY 28, 2014 – ITEM 3 – FINANCIAL INCENTIVES PROGRAM APPLICATION 2014-03 – INTERIOR RENOVATION AND IMPROVEMENT PROGRAM

247 MAIN STREET SOUTH (REAR)

 

The Economic Development Officer advised that he had not received any documentation related to Financial Incentives Program Application 2014-03 for the property known as 247 Main Street South and suggested that this matter be deferred to the March meeting.

 

4.         NEWMARKET DOWNTOWN DEVELOPMENT SUBCOMMITTEE MINUTES

FEBRUARY 28, 2014 – ITEM 4 – FINANCIAL INCENTIVES PROGRAM APPLICATION 2014-07 – BUSINESS SIGN PROGRAM AND PLANNING AND BUILDING FEES REBATE/CREDIT PROGRAM – 38 MAIN STREET SOUTH

           

The Economic Development Officer provided a verbal update regarding Financial Incentives Program Application 2014-07 – Business Sign Program and Planning and Building Fees Rebate/Credit Program for the property known as 38 Main Street South – Art School.

1.         THAT the Business Sign Program Grant Application 2014-07 in an amount of up to $1,000.00 be approved, subject to confirmation of final business sign costs;

 

2.         AND THAT the Planning and Building Fees Rebate/Credit Program Grant Application in the amount of $200.00 be approved;

 

3.         AND THAT Alexandra Reznik, 186 Sail Crescent, Maple, ON L6A 2Z2 be notified of this action.

5.         NEWMARKET DOWNTOWN DEVELOPMENT SUBCOMMITTEE MINUTES  FEBRUARY 28, 2014 – ITEM 5 – COMMUNITY GRANT PROGRAM APPLICATION  NEWMARKET GROUP OF ARTISTS

 

The Economic Development Officer provided a verbal update regarding a Community Grant Program Application on behalf of the Newmarket Group of Artists.  He advised that the submitted application is requesting support to offset costs associated with Art Banners on Main Street and an Artists Market.

1.         THAT the NDDS Community Grant Application on behalf of the Newmarket Group of Artists in the amount of $2,000.00 for the Art Banners on Main Street be approved;

 

2.         AND THAT $750.00 for the Artists Market be denied;

 

3.         AND THAT the Newmarket Group of Artists, c/o Julie Cochrane, 379 Botsford Street, Newmarket, ON L3Y 1S7 be notified of this action.

6.         NEWMARKET DOWNTOWN DEVELOPMENT SUBCOMMITTEE MINUTES  FEBRUARY 28, 2014 – ITEM 6 – COMMUNITY GRANT PROGRAM APPLICATION  RANJI SINGH FOUNDATION  

 

Discussion ensued regarding the Community Grant Program Application in the name of the Ranji Singh Foundation.  The Economic Development Officer advised that he would request written details and documentation showing benefits to Main Street businesses of supporting this application.  He further advised that this application would be considered at the March, 2014 NDDS meeting. 

 

7.         NEWMARKET DOWNTOWN DEVELOPMENT SUBCOMMITTEE MINUTES  FEBRUARY 28, 2014 – ITEM 7

NEW BUSINESS – REPLACEMENT MEMBER

 

The Economic Development Officer sought input regarding the vacancy on the Newmarket Downtown Development Subcommittee and advised this matter would be discussed further at the March, 2014 NDDS meeting.
