The meeting of the Newmarket Sports Hall of Fame Committee was held on Wednesday, March 5, 2014 at 6:30 p.m. in Multipurpose Room 1 at the Magna Centre, 800 Mulock Dr., Newmarket.

COMMITTEE MEMBERSHIP

 

The resignation letter of Carly Laxton was accepted.  Discussion ensued regarding a

replacement.  It was decided to wait until the next term of Council.

 

 

 

 

 

3.            NEWMARKET SPORTS  HALL OF FAME COMMITTEE MINUTES

MARCH 5, 2014 – ITEM 3

SCHEDULE FOR 2014

 

The proposed date for the 2014 Induction Ceremony is November 16, 2014 at the

Magna Centre.  The recording secretary will check with the Mayor’s office to ensure

that this date is suitable.

 

4.            NEWMARKET SPORTS   HALL OF FAME COMMITTEE MINUTES

PROJECT PLANNING FOR 2014

 

a)    Kiosk/audio visual display for the Hall of Fame:

 

Ken Smith recommended self- service kiosks be set up.  He will discuss our requirements with the vendor and report back to the Committee. 

Wayne Bulger recommended a dedicated website be set up that will also

contain marketing and sponsorship. 

Don Bond advised that perhaps companies could get involved with the

community by giving grants.  He handed out a sample letter that could be

sent.  Don will discuss this further with a business and report back at the

next meeting.

 

b)    Committee budget:

 

The Committee has suggested that the budget for the Induction Ceremony to be in the amount of $2,000.00 per year.  Dave Sheridan will investigate the source

of the funds for 2014 and report back at the next meeting.

 

5.            NEWMARKET SPORTS HALL OF FAME COMMITTEE MINUTES

MARCH 5, 2014 – ITEM 5

NEW BUSINESS

 

a)    Wayne Bulger advised that he made a presentation to the Historical Society

in January 2014.

 

b)    The ad for nominees for the Induction into the Sports Hall of Fame for 2014

will be placed on the Townpage, put on Social Media and poster boards will

be placed at the centers.

Applications will be accepted until the end of March 2014.  A sub-committee

will be formed to review the applications.  Wayne Bulger is requesting to attend

the June 16,2014 Committee of the Whole, in camera session, to present

the nominees.  The recording secretary will advise further.
