The meeting was called to order at 1:00 PM.

Mayor Taylor advised this meeting was streamed live at Newmarket.ca/meetings.

Mayor Taylor advised that in accordance with the Town's Procedure By-law, no decisions are to be made but rather this meeting was an opportunity for Council to have informal discussion regarding various matters.

The Commissioner of Development & Infrastructure Services provided an introduction to the presentation and advised Council of the background of traffic calming measures. The Manager of Transportation Services provided a presentation which included an overview of traffic calming measures in the Town and a timeline of their implementation, a summary of the approaches taken by other municipalities, and the various traffic calming measures available for use. The presentation continued with a breakdown of the existing Newmarket traffic calming plan and presented data related to traffic including collisions on local roads. The presentation concluded with an overview of new technology such as traffic sensors and an overview of next steps for the traffic calming program in 2022.

Members of Council asked questions of the presenter related to the measurement of average traffic speeds, utilization of different types of traffic mitigation measures, traffic collision data, automated speed enforcement, pedestrian crossings, and further pilot projects for traffic calming.
