3.

Verbal Update regarding the Newmarket Downtown Development Subcommittee.

 

 

 

The Economic Development Officer recommended that the Newmarket Downtown Development Subcommittee continue to meet until the Committee review is completed, as a matter of efficiency and to minimize financial impacts related to ongoing projects in the downtown area.

THAT the Newmarket Downtown Development Subcommittee be permitted to continue to meet in order to fulfill their duties.

4.

Verbal Update from the Deputy Clerk regarding the Committee Review.

 

 

 

The Deputy Clerk advised that a staff report will be brought forward at the March 23, 2015 Committee of the Whole meeting outlining the recommended Committee structure, Committee Administration Policy and minor housekeeping amendments to the Appointment Policy.  Additionally, the Appointment Committee’s recommendations resulting from this meeting will be provided. 

Appointment Committee members requested that the report and appointments be brought forward to the April 13, 2015 Committee of the Whole meeting.

Personal matters about identifiable individuals – Applications to the following Statutory Committees:

a) Accessibility Advisory Committee

b) Appeal Committee

c) Committee of Adjustment

d) Heritage Newmarket Advisory Committee

e) Newmarket Public Library Board

f) Property Standards Committee

 

 

Discussion ensued regarding the positive volume of applications and level of expertise and interest in each Committee.  The Committee discussed the need to achieve a balance between new and returning members and the need to ensure that the appointments reflect a balance of genders and diversity represented in the Town.  The Committee also referenced some of the Town’s diversity and inclusion policies which support that approach to recommended appointments including the Town’s membership in the Canadian Coalition of Municipalities Against Racism and Discrimination and the Town’s adoption of the Canadian Code for Volunteer Involvement.
