Notice

Mayor Taylor acknowledged that the Town of Newmarket is located on the traditional territories of the Wendat, Haudeno-saunee, and the Anishinaabe peoples and the treaty land of the Williams Treaties First Nations and other Indigenous peoples whose presence here continues to this day. He thanked them for sharing this land with us. Mayor Taylor also acknowledged the Chippewas of Georgina Island First Nation as our close neighbours and friends, and that we work to ensure a cooperative and respectful relationship.

Mayor Taylor advised that the Municipal Offices were open to the public, and that members of the public could attend this meeting in person or view the live stream available at Newmarket.ca/meetings. Residents who would like to provide comment on an item on this agenda were encouraged to provide their feedback in writing through email to Legislative Services at or by providing a deputation electronically or in-person. He advised residents that their comments would form part of the public record.

Deputy Fire Chief Appointments, Central York Fire Services

Mayor Taylor and Rocco Volpe, Fire Chief, Central York Fire Services recognized the appointment of Deputy Fire Chief Daniel Waters and Deputy Fire Chief Lorianne Zwicker.

Traumatic Incident Response Protocol

Dela Fotoohi, Traumatic Incident Response Protocol Community Coordinator, Routes Connecting Communities provided a deputation regarding Traumatic Incident Response Protocol (TIRP) including an overview of TIRP, communities supported by TIRP, guiding principles, TIRP activation and protocol, connecting with partners, and support to the Town of Newmarket. 

Members of Council queried the presenter regarding number of incidents in the past year, catchment areas, supported communities, partnerships, and upcoming events.

Deputy Mayor and Regional Councillor Vegh provided a Regional Reports including welcoming the York Region Council Chair Eric Jolliffe and discussion at the recent York Region Council meeting regarding lowering development charges.

  2. That Town Council consider all objections to the Notice of Intention to Designate (NOID) received within the Notice of Objection Period; and,
  3. That the designation of 48 properties be approved; and,
  4. That staff prepare a draft designation By-law for each property meeting designation criteria; and,
  5. That Staff be authorized and directed to do all things necessary to give effect to this resolution.

Final Update for 2024 to the Outstanding Matters List

• 1. That the report entitled Final Update for 2024 to the Outstanding Matters List dated January 13, 2025 be received; and,
  2. That Council adopt the Outstanding Matters List (Attachment 1); and,
  3. That Staff be authorized and directed to do all things necessary to give effect to this resolution.

Councillor Broome provided a verbal update regarding Newmarket Library Update including the growth of the library, additions and outreach undertaken by the library.
